September 19, 2008: Smith-Harmon and REI Win OMMA Award for Best Email Campaign
SEATTLE, September 19, 2008 — Smith-Harmon, Inc., an email marketing strategy and creative services agency, and Recreational Equipment, Inc. (REI), the national outdoor gear and apparel retailer, have won an OMMA Award for their work together on REI’s new member welcome series. They won in the “Email Campaign” category, which honors an outstanding campaign of three or more emails.

REI’s new Member Mail campaign is a series of 12 monthly messages sent to new REI co-op members that highlight the benefits of membership and link to content that illustrates REI’s commitment to its members, communities, and the outdoors. Each mail covers a single topic, keeping the focus tight, the message brief and the look inspirational. Each email contains something different, from videos and photo galleries to coupons and member reviews.

“REI’s 12-email new member welcome series recognizes that sometimes a single welcome email just isn’t enough,” said Lisa Harmon, principal of Smith-Harmon. “Focused on building long-term engagement, their welcome series nurtures the relationship with brand messaging and educational content over the course of a full year.”

REI’s email program is lead by Meg Reynolds, manager of email programs. Smith-Harmon team members that worked on the welcome series include Wacarra Yeomans, senior designer, and Darrah MacLean, writer/editor.
