July 27, 2009: A&F Goes Horizontal

I've given Abercrombie & Fitch some flack for their emails in past entries, so I'm excited to see some cool stuff coming from them lately. The horizontal scroll is fun and still a fresh sight in the inbox, and the copy is fun and on-brand, too. The copy on the jeans email especially optimizes opportunities to play with the pants theme, mentioning...erm..."assets," and telling subscribers to get their "butt in stores" to check out the jeans.

I'm very curious to see if the "horizontal email" trend will catch on. My only comment to those who give it a try: make sure that your email is not too tall. The need for scrolling in both directions would just cause a headache. I found that I have scroll bars in both directions for these Abercrombie emails. Luckily, there was not any pertinent information below the fold. My yahoo browser window displays a height of 440px. I'm not sure about other platforms though.
